Off road ride info

On Saturdays the off-road ride takes place on public bridleways and rights of way joined with short sections of road. The routes are carefully planned to allow you to sample the best riding in the area. All routes are way-marked and riders are given a FREE Memory Map OS map at the start.

Off-road short route

At 10-12 miles the Short route is designed for those that are new to mountain biking or want to build up their fitness before tackling longer routes – perfect for beginners or family groups. The route involves climbing and descending including some challenging terrain and should usually take no more than 2 hours. No off-road experience is necessary, climbing is limited and riders will be able to ride most of the course, novice riders may need to dismount and walk their bike through some challenging sections.

Off-road medium route

At 25-30 miles this is our most popular route. It is designed for the riders that want to challenge themselves and spend a few hours in the saddle. The route is suitable for those with off-road experience and a reasonable level of fitness and normally takes between 3 to 5 hours. A SIS drink station is provided part way through the route.

Off-road long route

The long route takes in the medium route and adds an additional 5 or so miles of self-navigated trails. Push your endurance and map reading skills that little bit further and take up the challenge of navigating to the marked orienteering points using the provided map.

Night Rides

Experience the exhilaration of off-road night riding with our Night Ride series at selected events over the winter. Starting after our usual daylight rides (between 3pm & 4pm) riders set off on the short (12-15 mile) route in the dwindling light of dusk and are soon plunging into darkness as they enter the woods. Follow the reflective arrows around the pre-marked course before returning to the event centre for a hot mug of tea.

Trail Conditions & Climbing rating

The Ride It! events take place in a variety of locations throughout the UK with a diverse range of terrain and topography. To give riders a better idea of the condition of trails and the amount of climbing involved we provide a rating for each event:

Ride It! Trail rating Trail conditions

A rating of 1 signifies good trail conditions in all weather and minimal technical challenges.
A rating of 4 signifies challenging conditions in poor weather and testing technical sections.
Ride It! Climbing rating Climbing

A rating of 1 signifies a mostly flat ride with minimal climbing.
A rating of 4 signifies hilly routes with plenty of climbing.

Please note: These ratings are a guide only. Conditions and the amount of climbing can be effected by weather, trail obstructions, route changes and more.
